Nestled in the heart of Philadelphia at 210 W Rittenhouse Square, The Library Bar redefines sophistication with a unique blend of intimate ambiance, masterful mixology, and an alluring sense of exclusivity. This upscale bar offers an oasis for those seeking a refined night out, whether you’re meeting friends for a thoughtful conversation over expertly crafted cocktails or wandering in solo with a favorite book and a divine drink in hand.
The Library Bar’s cocktail program is nothing short of exceptional. Their menu boasts a curated selection of classics, like the silky-smooth Espresso Martini, the smoky charm of their Smokey Old-Fashioned, and the refreshingly bright Pisco Sour. For adventurous palates, their original creations artfully blend premium spirits with unexpected flavors — consider the Georgia Pines, where Corralejo silver tequila intertwines with pepita orgeat and vanilla, or the deeply warming Cujo, a robust duet of Glenmorangie and Laphroaig scotches kissed with honey and golden raisin. These $16 masterpieces invite you on a rich sensory journey, each sip an exploration of nuanced taste and texture.
For the connoisseurs willing to indulge, The Library Bar’s reserve cocktails elevate the experience further. Savor the luxurious Nectar, a velvet concoction of Glenmorangie 'nectar d'or' with hints of vanilla and lemon, priced at $24. These pieces are less drinks and more liquid art, perfect for those moments when only the finest will do.
Complementing the drinks is a thoughtfully curated small menu — from crispy, salty Fries to the indulgent decadence of Foie Gras or the intriguing, fresh crunch of Papaya Salad. Light bites like the 6 Cheese Plate offer lush textures and complex flavors that perfectly accompany the robust drink offerings.
The atmosphere at The Library Bar invites you into a timeless, almost literary setting where classic charm meets contemporary cool. Though the space is cozy and intimate—making it best suited for smaller groups or quiet evenings—it encourages a tranquil yet vibrant lounge vibe, perfect for those who appreciate craft and character. As one visitor beautifully put it, it’s “the first place I’ve ever felt comfortable just sitting quietly and reading a book by myself, and the cocktails were delicious.”
Service here is professional and courteous, with bartenders like Amber and Omar receiving glowing praise for their genuine care and skilled craftsmanship, making every visit special. While some patrons have found the pace a bit leisurely given the bar’s size, the quality of drinks and attention to detail more than compensates, allowing you to savor every moment.
It’s important to note that The Library Bar does lean towards the pricier side, reflecting its premium ingredients and refined environment. But for those who value artistry in a glass and a serene, stylish setting, this spot truly stands out as a Philadelphia gem.
Whether you’re a cocktail aficionado, a solo thinker, or someone seeking a chic gathering place, The Library Bar delivers an unmistakable sense of luxury and warmth—a rare haven for those who appreciate the finer nuances of nightlife.

Atmosphere: 1/1: If you have ever wanted to feel classy and sophisticated, this bar is the place! However, it’s a small space so not great for large groups. Service: 0.5/1: staff was nice and professional, but service was slow for such a small bar (we waited like 20-25 mins after we ordered to get 2 drinks and that was after we waited 15-20 mins for the waitress) Price: 0.5/1: it’s Expensive. Drinks are $22-$25! Food: 2/2: We had the RH and the Lantern’s light. Both were amazingly well-balanced delicious cocktails! We also had the crème brûlée, which was just ok. But let’s face it you go to this place for drinks! Overall: 4/5: If you want to have a well made cocktail in a classy atmosphere, then you have to come here! Just be prepared to pay extra.
Great place! Ambiance is as close to perfect as you can get. This is a perfect location for meeting friends with a really nice cocktail in your hand or for sitting quietly and enjoying a book with a really nice cocktail in your hand. In fact, it's the first place I've ever felt comfortable just sitting quietly and reading a book by myself, and the cocktails were delicious. The bartenders are so so pleasant and accommodating. It's expensive (I forgot how expensive it was. I spent $30 on one drink. It was absolutely delicious though!), but the whole experience is worth it. Can't wait to go back!
Great atmosphere, the cocktail menu was very good, excellent service.
Amber and Omar are the best! The drinks Omar made were exceptional and Ambers service and presence was outstanding! A must visit!
This is my one of favorite bar in Philadelphia, it has live music, nice cocktail. I like dark knight a lot, I was a little bit unsure about the color, and the glass they poured in, but it taste very sweet and easy to drink.
A somewhat low-key spot tucked behind the grand facade of The Rittenhouse Hotel. I came on a quiet Sunday afternoon towards the last hour of their 'happy hour' times- more on this later. The drinks were great, and the space was comfortable. It was a very dive / speakeasy environment, and the bartenders kept that mood throughout my time there. It really does give a sense of being in a library with grand bookshelves and polished wooden accents everywhere. I ordered two of their seasonal drinks, which came with complimentary bar snacks. Both drinks had a nice balance and a good spectrum of flavors and textures. The drinks themselves were at a higher price point, but that was expected for the quality of the space and hotel. I didn't realize until after I left, but they did charge me full price instead of their previously advertised happy hour prices. However, even at full price, I'd give it a chance for a spot on my bar rotation. I will definitely come by again for their signature old fashioned before the final say on this spot. Update: came back a few more times, definitely on my regular spot for a pick me up at the end of a long week.
Would’ve given it 5 stars for the elegant décor, courteous staff and live jazz piano, but when I was just about to sip on my beautiful drink, a dozen finance bros walked in, yelling each word of their conversation and ruined the atmosphere. Considering the location, I wouldn’t say this is a rare occurrence, so we’ll just have to bet our luck I guess.
Such a cozy spot to unwind with a craft cocktail—love the library theme and intimate vibe. The bartenders really know their stuff, and it’s perfect for a quiet night out or a low-key date. Feels like a hidden gem in Rittenhouse.
